Navigating the legal system and courts can be overwhelming. Legal terms, processes and federal/state/municipal laws are often confusing and frustrating.
That is why we offer the Domestic Violence Protection Order Clinic. This clinic serves individuals filing for protection orders in Walla Walla County. YWCA advocates can help fill out domestic violence protection order (restraining order) forms, and go with you to have your forms and cases reviewed by judge or court commissioner.
YWCA advocates meet with clients filing for protection orders in the Walla Walla County Courthouse weekdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A safe, secure location in the third-floor law library offers privacy for individuals completing the dozens of pages of forms that protection orders require.
In addition to protection order assistance, YWCA legal advocacy services can:
- Provide assistance with navigating processes
- Attend court with you
- Provide referrals to outside legal services
- Assist you when meeting with your attorneys
- Help you understand your options if you choose to report a sexual assault
YWCA advocates attend court every Friday afternoon for the domestic violence docket to assist YWCA clients, as well as those who have not had the help of an advocate prior to coming to court.
