ISI Recreational Hockey Program

The Ice Skating Institute (ISI) Hockey Test Program is designed to teach the basic skills required to skate and play the game of hockey. Our mission statement is to create an ice hockey educational program that develops knowledge and skills that are instructed in the simplest and most easily understandable form. To create a safe, focused, fun, rewarding environment, taught by enthusiastic instructors, to which PLAYERS and FAMILIES will anxiously return season after season. ISI lessons are offered in four 6-week sessions.

* $54 per session (6 weeks), includes skate rental
* Annual YWCA & ISI membership required
* Rental hockey equipment - $10 per 6 week session
* Minimum class size: 5 students
* Register at the Ice Chalet

Sessions:

Beginners & Level I: Wednesday 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Level II: Thursday 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
Saturday 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

Level III: Tuesday 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Saturday 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

Level IV: Tuesday 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Thursday 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.


2010-2011 Session Dates:

1. September 28 to November 6
2. November 11 to December 18
3. January 4 to February 12
4. February 15 to March 26



Class level description/skills

Beginner-all ages: Students learn falling down and getting up, "T" push off position, gliding on 2 feet, snow plow stops and forward sculling.

Level 1: Students learn 1 foot glides, correct hockey stride, hockey stops, introduction to backward skating, beginning stick handling, forehand shots, forward crossovers, and position identification.

Level 2: Students learn backward skating, backward crossovers, backward stops, 3 step starts, mohawk turns, passing, backhand shots, and game strategy.

Level 3: Students learn edge control, checking, power strides, specific offensive drills, specific defensive drills, advanced stick handling, and slapshots.


Skate sharpening available: $6.00 for hockey skates, $7.00 for figure skates.

The Ice Chalet is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Easter Sunday
