Figure Skating Freestyle Times
Private practice for Figure Skaters
($7.00 per hour)

Monday: 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday:
4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Ice Skating Institute Classes

Lessons for all levels and ages are offered in four six-week sessions at the following times:

Monday: 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Gamma, Delta, Freestyle I)

Tuesday: 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. (Tiny Tots, Pre-Alpha, Alpha, Beta)

Wednesday: 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Adults 16 & over, Basic Skills)

Saturday: 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (Tiny Tots, Pre-Alpha, Alpha)

* Annual YWCA membership required
* $54 per session (6 classes), includes skate rental
* Skaters are invited to participate in recitals
* Minimum class size: 5 students
* Register at YWCA front desk or at the Ice Chalet

2010-2011 Session Dates:

Session 1: September 27 to November 6

Session 2: September 8 to December 18

Session 3: January 3 to February 12

Session 4: February 14 to March 26

Class level description/skills

Tiny Tots: (ages 31/2 to 5 years) Students learn about standing on ice, falling down and getting up, marching in place/marching forward, forward swizzles, backward wiggles, snowplow stop, correct body position.

Pre-Alpha: (ages 5 and older) Students learn correct body position, falling down and getting up, forward and backward swizzles, one- and two-foot glides, backward wiggle, two-foot jump in place, two-foot snowplow stop.

Alpha: Forward stroking, forward crossovers, one-foot snowplow stop

Beta: Backward stroking, backward crossovers, T-stops

Gamma: Forward 3-turns (outside edge), mohawks, hockey stop

Delta: Forward 3-turns (inside edge), forward one-foot glides on a curve, shoot-the-duck, lunges, bunny hops

Freestyle 1: Waltz jump, half flip, foward inside pivot, 2-foot spin, backward inside & outside edges, forward spiral, routine to music using Freestyle 1 elements.
