The YWCA of Walla Walla has a commitment to youth and programs to that work. The After School Adventure Club, Summer Adventure Club and My Friends' House support the YWCA's mission by providing the highest quality care for children from all over the community.
My Friends' House provides a safe and positive environment not only to children from the community but to many from the shelters. A scholarship fund makes financial assistance a possibility for mothers staying at the YWCA's two shelters who are in need of child care as they work to rebuild their lives.
After School Adventure Club is held at Davis Elementary in College Place. It offers an exciting and educational child care option for children after school. In the summer, children in the Summer Adventure Club spent their days taking field trips, bicycle rides, learning to cook, and doing crafts and science experiments as well as character building activities. The YWCA van picks up children at Walla Walla public schools daily.
The YWCA Ice Chalet welcomes nearly 20,000 people of all ages each year. The Walla Walla Figure Skating Club and hockey leagues - as well as broomball and public skating sessions - remain popular among all ages. Group and individual lessons make learning to skate fun, no matter what level people begin.
The YWCA's year would not be complete without the summer Fun Factory van rolling through the Walla Walla Valley. More than 3,000 children (and often their mothers) joined in the fun at area parks creating crafts and playing games. For more information please contact the YWCA at (509) 525-2570. |
